The New York Rangers confirmed that forward Derek Boogaard has died at the age of 28. He appeared in 45 games this season for the New York Rangers, was found dead in his apartment in Minneapolis on Friday


Derek Boogaard (June 23, 1982 – May 13, 2011)was a Canadian professional ice hockey left winger who played for the Minnesota Wild and the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). Known primarily as a fighter and enforcer, his nicknames included "Boogeyman" and "The Mountie". He was voted as the second most intimidating player in the NHL, behind now retired Georges Laraque
